Dinner Diplomacy in Las Vegas Earns a National Spotlight

International visitors and Las Vegas hosts sharing dinner and music in a welcoming home

Global Ties U.S. placed a WACLV home-hospitality story in its national spotlight on November 17, 2025. The feature follows a Las Vegas family that transformed an ordinary home, a slow-cooked meal, and an evening of music into a memorable international exchange.

A meal becomes an exchange

According to Global Ties U.S., Dan and his family have welcomed international visitors since 2018. For a multi-regional group visiting Las Vegas, Dan started the smoker at 4:00 a.m. on August 9 so brisket could anchor the meal. Conversation around the table gave guests and hosts space to compare experiences, ask questions, and connect beyond a formal itinerary.

Later, Dan, his son, and his son-in-law picked up their guitars. A visitor named Andrew joined on drums, turning the gathering into an impromptu living-room jam session. The national feature uses the moment to show how food and music can create common ground without erasing anyone’s differences.

What home hospitality does

Professional exchange programs connect visitors with institutions and subject-matter experts. Home hospitality adds a different kind of insight: how people live, what they share with friends and family, and how communities welcome someone they have only just met. It is citizen diplomacy at its most personal.

Global Ties U.S. has also highlighted WACLV Board Member Mijung Lombardi’s hospitality for ten International Visitor Leadership Program delegates from Africa, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Homemade Korean dishes became a bridge to conversations about culture, family, and the similarities people recognize when they spend time together.

Open a door to the world

WACLV’s home-hospitality hosts do not need to stage a perfect dinner party. Curiosity, a welcoming table, and a willingness to listen can be enough to create an experience that visitors remember long after they leave Las Vegas.
