Southern Nevada Shares Water-Management Expertise with Turkmenistan

Southern Nevada’s relationship with water is both local and global. In late summer 2025, WACLV hosted visitors from Turkmenistan for an International Visitor Leadership Program project focused on excellence in water-resource management.
Learning across the valley
The delegation’s itinerary connected policy with practice. Visits included Gilcrease Orchard, Springs Preserve WaterWorks, the Southern Nevada Water Authority and Las Vegas Valley Water District, Hoover Dam, and the smart-water operations behind the Bellagio fountains.
Together, those stops showed how conservation, public education, agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism can be managed within one of the driest metropolitan regions in the United States.
Why international exchange matters
Water scarcity crosses borders. By sharing applied lessons and comparing approaches, visiting professionals and Southern Nevada experts can identify ideas that travel—while recognizing that every community’s legal, environmental, and cultural context is different.
