Raquel Toquero-Choa: Raquel Toquero-Choa’s chocolate journey began in the hinterlands of Balamban in the tropical southern province of Cebu, Philippines where she grew up cultivating cacao and other agricultural produce on her grandmother’s smallholding. Along with her grandmother’s lessons in making traditional Tablea (pure Cacao tablets) and Sikwate, (a 100% pure Cacao drink), Raquel taught herself to craft her own chocolate creations. Raquel’s contributions to the Cacao/chocolate industry extend beyond her chocolate business: she is committed to sourcing cacao from local farmers, thereby providing them a sustainable livelihood; moreover, she founded the Philippine Chocolate Chamber to promote the Philippine Cacao/chocolate industry in her country and worldwide. Raquel Toquero-Choa has become an advocate for cacao farming, not only in the Philippines but also in Guam, Indonesia, Thailand and Venezuela.
